PIAs are mandatory under Alberta’s Health Information Act (HIA), and are recommended for major projects that involve the collection, use or disclosure of personal information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP Act) and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The OIPC developed PIA workshops to assist organizations in reviewing the impact that a new project may have on individual privacy.
