The Request Process
Under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) a Privacy Officer, or other designated individual assigned by the organization, will be responsible to assist individuals with concerns or requests in relation to the access, collection, use or disclosure of their own personal information, including personal employee information.
Some employers will allow employees to have access to their own personal employee records without making a formal request for access under PIPA. A phone call to a Human Resources Officer may get you the information you are seeking.
The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to all federally regulated businesses. For more information with regards to whether PIPEDA applies to the personal information held by a certain business or sector, please contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at 1-800-282-1376 or visit
their website.
