Is there anything in the PIPA relating to the searching of an employee's personal effects, such as backpacks or purses? And if so, is this allowed?

PIPA applies to personal information, recorded or not. The physical searching of an employee's belongings may not be subject to this Act, unless information is being recorded in some fashion. However, employers must have privacy policies in place and as such, there should be justification for such searches and employees should be notified as to the frequency, purposes and use of any results of those searches.
