Registry
The Information and Privacy Commissioner has committed to developing a registry of all Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA's) that have been accepted by the OIPC.
Our PIA Registry contains a summary of projects that affect the way personal information in collected, used or disclosed within Alberta. The summaries contained in this registry are taken directly from the PIA submitted by the custodian or public body and do not convey OIPC opinion on the program or project referenced.
The Commissioner has been reviewing and commenting on PIAs since proclamation of the FOIP Act in 1995. This has resulted in a number of PIAs that have been accepted by the Commissioner but are not yet in a format consistent with our website. As these PIAs are converted into an appropriate format, they will be added to the Registry. The Registry will also be updated as new PIA’s are accepted by the Commissioner.
Search Tips
The OIPC PIA Registry can be searched in two ways. If you know which public body or custodian submitted the PIA, you can click on the first letter of the public body or custodian’s name. This will take you to a listing of all PIAs accepted by public bodies or custodians whose name starts with that letter. Keep in mind that your search may return several pages of results and you may need to use the page numbers at the bottom of the page to move between the pages. Secondly, you can search all PIA Summaries by using the keyword search field. An example of this type of search would be searching for keywords such as “surveillance” or “electronic health record”. If you search the Registry this way, every PIA Summary that has your search term within it will be returned by the search engine.
