Netcare

Alberta Netcare is Alberta’s electronic health record (EHR).

The Alberta Netcare Portal offers authorized health services providers web-based access to core health information on every Albertan.

The Health Information Act (HIA) requires custodians contemplating changes to practices or information systems that could impact patient privacy to conduct a privacy impact assessment and submit it to the Information and Privacy Commissioner for his review and comment.  Adoption of Alberta Netcare is such a change and requires every custodian wishing to use Netcare through the Netcare Portal to complete a PIA.

Alberta Health and Wellness has assisted custodians adopting Alberta Netcare to meet their PIA obligations by completing the project specific portion of the PIA on their behalf.  Custodians who wish to obtain Netcare Access complete a PIA that describes their organizational privacy structure and controls and rely on the project specific portion of the PIA that Alberta Health and Wellness completed on their behalf.

The listed custodians have met their obligation under the HIA to submit a PIA to the Information and Privacy Commissioner for their adoption of Alberta Netcare.
