What is meant by examining a record as opposed to requesting a copy - in the case of examining does the individual who is the subject of the record retain the right to keep the original records?

Examining a record means you make an appointment with the custodian to perform a supervised review of the record(s). Requesting a copy of the record means you make a formal access request for a copy of the record(s). The custodian can charge a $25.00 administration fee for preparing the record(s) to be copied.

The custodian retains control of the original record(s) at all times. The individual who is subject to the record does not retain the right to keep the original record.
