ID Theft First Aid

Questions & Answers

There are errors in my medical records. Can I have those fixed?

The HIA gives you the right to request that errors or omissions in your health records be corrected.

If you would like to request that your health information be corrected, you must write to the custodian. The custodian then has 30 days to decide if your request will be granted and the records will be corrected or if they will refuse to correct your records.

If the custodian refuses your request for correction, you may either ask for a written statement of disagreement to be attached to their health record OR request that the Information and Privacy Commissioner review the custodian’s decision.
